Miegakure Residence
hide and reveal
Miegakure (見え隠れ) is a traditional Japanese garden design concept meaning “hide and reveal,” where scenic views are deliberately, partially obscured by elements like trees, hills, or walls. It encourages exploration, creating a sense of mystery and making small spaces feel vast by compelling the viewer to imagine what is hidden.

“While visiting the site, we were all enamored with this path from the existing house down a worn out stair and through the woods ultimately popping out of a tunnel in the vegetation to the beach and water. We wanted to capture the same feeling of hiding and revealing with the design of the home.”
